How the marketplace works
Swapo is a platform where you can exchange products and services without needing cash (or by using indicative values to keep exchanges fair). The platform finds matches between listings and can also create multi-party “chain” exchanges (A → B → C → A), so each participant can get what they need.
What is the goal of the platform?
- Help you quickly find someone you can trade with.
- Enable indirect (chain) exchanges, not only direct swaps.
- Provide transparency (fairness rate, demand coverage, offer consumption).
- Facilitate communication via chat between participants.
What types of exchanges are there?
How to use the platform (step by step)
Benefits
- Save money: get what you need through barter.
- Use what you don’t need: stock, equipment, services, time.
- Smart matching: including A→B→C→A chains.
- Transparency: see how “fair” an exchange is (rates, scores).
- Built-in chat: negotiate details quickly.
- AI Price Estimator (Swapo Value): get an indicative price-per-unit range for a product based on your photo, your listing details, and internal Swapo market data.
- Boost listing: promote an item to increase visibility in search lists (available on eligible plans / add-ons).
Downsides / limitations
- Logistics: chain exchanges may require travel and coordination.
- Values are indicative: quality/condition can change “fairness”.
- Dynamic listings: items appear/expire, quantities are consumed, ordering changes.
- Negotiation: adjustments may be needed (partial quantities, alternative items).
- AI Price Estimator limits: results are approximate and depend on photo quality, correct listing details, and available market data; Swapo does not guarantee accuracy.
Gifts & Pro Bono (free)
Besides barter, you can also publish listings that are free: Gifts (products) and Pro Bono (services). They don’t require anything in exchange, but you can still use chat to coordinate pickup or scheduling.
- Reduces waste by giving useful items a second life.
- Supports people who need essentials or short-term help.

Tips for a successful barter
Basic tips on online barter
- Trade items that are both useful and valuable. Don’t just trade worn-out sneakers or a broken television set. Ask yourself if you’d be willing to receive the item in its current condition.
- Ask for essential items if you can. Since you can trade almost everything, take the opportunity to get rid of things you don’t need. Scoring groceries without spending money is just the icing on the cake.
- Disclose all details about your items. From blemishes, scratches, or any imperfections, be upfront. Honesty is a core principle of barter.
- Treat other community members with respect. You’re not necessarily a seller — you’re a community member. Leave the “customer is always right” mindset at the door. Report any bad behavior of an listed item.
- Interact with other members. Use this opportunity to build friendships or networks for future opportunities.
- Don’t ask for more than your item’s value. Be realistic. Don’t expect high-end items for mid-range goods, and don’t expect a truckload of essentials for a low-value item. Use our AI Price Estimator (Swapo Value) to estimates the price value range for your item ( disclaimers applied ).
- Don’t give out sensitive information. Even if money isn’t involved, be careful with what you share online. There’s no need to show bank or credit card details.
- Don’t trust suspicious listings. Avoid posts with missing details or no photos. Always transact with trustworthy members.
- Don’t trade harmful or illegal items. This should be a no-brainer, but it’s worth repeating: no weapons, stolen goods, or anything illegal.
